Pollyanna is a family business founded in 1990 by Angela Kindell and her daughter Alexandra Kind.
Angela had spent many years teaching drama to adults, nurturing their raw talent and watching their confidence develop. She delighted as her students successfully moved on to a variety of careers - both within the performing arts world and beyond.
It occurred to her that the same format - a full time theatre school course held each Saturday - would greatly benefit children and young people; who in this highly driven world in which we now live, would gain from the enjoyment, achievement, self-esteem and feel good factor that theatrical training can bring.
So, in 1990, after many requests to open a children's school, Angela decided to start a small Saturday morning course - and the rest is history!
In its 25 year history, Pollyanna has seen hundreds of children become part of it's ever-growing theatrical family. It is a mark of the school's success that, during recent years, past pupils have remembered their happy & enjoyable times here, and have now chosen to send their own children to Pollyanna. Angie & Alex couldn't wish for a better recommendation!
Successful performances have taken place in Leicester Square Theatre, Canary Wharf, The Rosemary Branch Theatre and Wilton's Music Hall among others.
Past students have gone on to star in numerous projects, such as:
Film, including: It's A Free World (Ken Loach), Fish Tank (Andrea Arnold) & Life & Lyrics (Richard Laxton)
Television, including: Luther, Eastenders, Casualty, The Catherine Tate Show, Leonardo, Doctors, Out Of Control, Top Boy, Baby Jake and lots more!
Theatre, including: The History Boys (The National Theatre), Miss Saigon (Prince Edward Theatre), The Twits (Regents Park & No1 Tour) & Annie.
Whether a child wishes to work towards a career in the performing arts, to develop crucial life skills, or to have fun, they will be warmly welcomed & friendships have been formed which will span decades.
